Rambling -- Rambling Mailing List

About Rambling
English (USA)

Many of my friends have collected a large list of people to whom they send stuff they find interesting. I find that my interest in what they send goes up and down. Since I have installed Mailman on my PC, I can now set my corresponding list up as a mailing list where people can turn themselves off when they get tired of getting stuff from me.
If there is a theme to "Rambling" it is this question: "What is a good life?" The wonderful ambiguity of our language allows us to simultaneously decode this at least two ways:
- What are the things we enjoy most in life and how do we manage to live our dreams? (the sybaritic interpretation) ... and ...
- How do we live responsibly in the world and in our community, so that we may be respected and so that we may serve as productive role models for our children and our friends? If the only real afterlife is in the loving memory of our dear ones, how do we earn that? And is that different from the life that Joshua bin Yussuf of Nazareth (Jesus) or prince Siddharta Gautama (the Buddha) would call for us to live?

That all sounds very lofty, and in reality, we have written on such subjects as:
- Are SUVs really that bad? And whose fault are they?
- Can quality news exist in commercial media?
- What is Freedom? Was the war on Iraq a "just war" or "just a war"?
- Is this the year to vote Green?
- Things we have learned from living in another country
- Why do we ship products that we know are crap
